First meeting of Inclusive society for person with Disability Cyprus

Our first meeting was held at the Generation for change office space and organization that support migrants in Cyprus. Our host for this meeting was Miss Panayiota, she's a professional sychologist and a past member of Cyprus Refugee Council. The focused of seetting up this group is to bring all migrants with disabilities together.

I am sure, as disable people, we are more powerful when we turn to each other and amplify our voice together, in strength we tear down the mighty walls of exclusion, stigma and injustice. There is no organizations that can carry forward or speak for us as a migrants with disability.

Living in Cyprus with dyability it very difficulty and frustrating, their is less jobs opportunity for asylum, even though this jobs some of them can be hard for person with disability to work. I have been in Cyprus for one year seven months, I have not see migrants with disability have found or given jobs. Some of them are now hiding inside their house because of the stigma they face..

But with my own initiative am now volunteering with Refugee Support Europe, every two days per week, as a specialist in register Asylum seeker on the Labour websites online for them to receive their social services benefits and also find jobs. I see it as a blessing because every time I go to the center I meet different people from different countries they give me wonderful smile, it going to be a great day.

Their is no acces for Education, Training, I for one am still struggling to get back to the university to build my confidence and to level level up in society. Many of us need surgery and medical care.

Martin has been in Cyprus for one year since he left his country Cameroon, he has a physical disability on his one leg. He went to see a Doctor for his surgery, the Doctor told him that he needs to wait for two years for him to do his surgery.

Mohamed is from Sierra Leone, he also has a physical disability, he has been in Cyprus for two years, the Doctor told him that the surgery cannot be done in Cyprus because there's no specialist for his case. Unfortunately the Doctor cannot write a referral.. this is what many of us are going through.

TAKE US AS WE ARE, OR WATCHED US AS WE GO!!!
